The Benefits of Sharing on Google Reader

Earlier this month fellow Bloggertoner Greg Fry wrote an excellent article called Are You Sharing?.  In his post Greg talks about how easy it is to share content these days, and encourages us to do so actively.

In the comments to Greg’s post, I mentioned how I use Google Reader to share content, and also how I benefit myself from content shared by other people.  For this blog post I decided to create a short screencast, that represents visually how I use Google Reader for sharing.

I hope you enjoyed this screencast. Do you share content on Google Reader? Are you watching what other people share on Google Reader? If so let us know your thoughts on how this works for you, in the comments.

Nice one Frank. Thanks for sharing!
I’m not really crazy about RSS readers. On paper, sounds like a no-brainer, everybody should use it but I’m not sure if it’s the interface or what that never got me. I liked your video though. Think I’ll give my G-reader another shot :)

Thanks for the feedback Fred. I don’t use my RSS Reader as much as I used to, but I still find it invaluable for keeping up with content from sources that I’m already aware of. I do find Twitter much better for finding new content.

Thanks for the comment Niall. This was a useful tip I picked up a few weeks ago. At the moment the number of items shared more than once are few and far between, but I’m increasing the number of people who I follow on Google Reader, so hopefully this feature will become more useful.
