You know what they say about work, “it would be great if it wasn’t for the people”.

Leadership is about standing out from the crowd. The Managers are battling their way through the thickets in the forest, cutting a new pathway; adrenaline pumping and sweat flowing.

How many of us “like ourselves”? How many of us have poked around our warts and owned up to the things we hate about ourselves, counter-balanced it out with a list of our strengths and decided that, on the whole, we still like ourselves?

Watch your language! If you are not specific with your wording, then you are giving yourself permission not to succeed. Other goal killers are words like “I’ll try”, “I’d love to, but…”, “I wish I could do that, but…” I am sure you know where I am coming from with this.

It is up to each person what they do with feedback received, but the worst a Manager can do is “nothing”. This is an opportunity for improvement, it must be taken.

There are various ways to become a Manager. One can work themselves up from the “mailroom”, be hired for their skills and abilities as Manager or bluff their way in…

There is another aspect of effective management and that is the Manager as Coach. These individuals will know the importance of empowering and nurturing their staff. They will understand that in order to get the best from their team, a high level of intuition is required.

The phrase “Authentic Leadership” has gained currency over the last few years but what exactly does it mean? How does “leadership” become “authentic”?
